Vercel Labs released agent-desktop, an open-source Rust CLI enabling AI coding agents to control macOS, Windows, and Linux GUIs. Built by developer Lahfir, the Apache-2.0 tool replaces screenshot pixel matching with native OS accessibility trees, using a 56-command set to return machine-readable ref targets for unattended agent execution loops.

Accessibility trees replace vision models for reliable, low-latency desktop agent loops Developers can build faster, deterministic GUI automation without paying vision token costs or handling failed coordinate clicks.
