B2B data providers benchmarked: ZoomInfo and Seamless.AI head-to-head match and bounce rates

A 500-prospect benchmark of six B2B data providers reveals a sharp trade-off between high match rates and domain-killing bounce rates for outbound sales teams.

If your sales team prioritizes domain health and deliverability, skip ZoomInfo's raw volume and use Seamless.AI or a verified-first alternative. While ZoomInfo yielded the highest match rate (410 out of 500 prospects), its 28% spot-check bounce rate is a fast track to the spam folder. Seamless.AI delivered fewer matches but maintained a safer 6% bounce rate. For teams running high-volume outbound without pre-validation pipelines, Seamless.AI is the safer pick, but the real winner is any workflow that inserts an independent verification step before sending.

Methodology

This review analyzes a head-to-head benchmark conducted by an outbound sales practitioner (Reddit user Prudent-Life-1015) managing a 12-person sales team. The test ran a 500-prospect list targeting VP Sales at Series B/C SaaS companies across six B2B data providers: ZoomInfo, Lusha, Seamless.AI, Cognism, LeadIQ, and ContactOut.

  • Date observed: July 2026
  • Source signal: https://www.reddit.com/r/startups/comments/1uo9x1x/tested_6_b2b_data_providers_head_to_head_the/
  • What's covered: Match rates for 500 contacts, spot-checked bounce rates from 50 random emails per provider, and qualitative trade-offs between mobile coverage and email accuracy.
  • What's NOT covered: Long-term deliverability, pricing negotiations, API performance, or independent verification of the user's raw dataset. This is a v0 review drawing on a single practitioner's reported test data; independent automated benchmarks are pending.

What it does

The volume play: ZoomInfo leads matches

ZoomInfo operates as the legacy heavyweight in the B2B data space. In this 500-contact test, it secured the highest match rate, successfully returning data for 410 prospects. This represents an 82% match rate, making it the clear leader for raw database coverage when targeting VP Sales roles at Series B/C SaaS companies.

The accuracy play: Seamless.AI limits bounces

Seamless.AI took a different position in the matrix. While it returned fewer overall matches than ZoomInfo, its data hygiene proved significantly tighter. In a random spot check of 50 emails, only 3 bounced. This 6% bounce rate is dramatically safer for outbound domains than ZoomInfo's performance on the same cohort.

The tail end: Lusha, Cognism, LeadIQ, and ContactOut

The remaining providers fell into a wide variance band. ContactOut sat at the bottom of the match spectrum, returning only 180 matches out of 500 prospects (a 36% match rate). The test also highlighted a structural divide in data types: some providers offered strong mobile phone coverage but poor email accuracy, while others reversed that priority.

What's interesting / what's not

The deliverability trap

The most critical finding from this benchmark is the inverse relationship between database size and database hygiene. ZoomInfo's 410 matches look impressive on a spreadsheet, but the 28% bounce rate (14 out of 50 spot-checked emails) is catastrophic. For a team sending 2,000 cold emails per week, relying on unverified ZoomInfo data would result in roughly 560 bounces weekly. This volume of failed deliveries will quickly destroy domain reputation, landing even highly personalized emails in the spam folder.

The missing verification layer

What is not interesting is the marketing promise of "real-time verification" from these vendors. The data proves that no single provider's internal verification is robust enough to protect your domain health out of the box. Seamless.AI's 6% bounce rate is better, but it still exceeds the industry-standard 2% safety threshold. The practitioner's dilemma reveals that buying a B2B data provider and sending immediately is a flawed workflow.

The mobile vs. email trade-off

The user noted that mobile coverage and email accuracy are often mutually exclusive across these platforms. This suggests that providers are scraping and updating different data types at different cadences. If your sales motion relies on cold calling, a lower-accuracy email provider with high mobile match rates might be acceptable. If you rely on cold email, the opposite is true.

Pricing

Pricing for these enterprise data tools is notoriously opaque and seat-based. As of July 2026:

  • ZoomInfo: Typically requires annual contracts starting around $10,000 to $15,000 for basic tiers, with no transparent self-service pricing.
  • Seamless.AI: Offers a limited free tier (typically 50 credits/month); paid plans start at $147/month billed annually.
  • Lusha: Free tier includes 5 credits/month; Pro plans start at $29/user/month billed annually.
  • ContactOut: Free tier includes 4 e-mails and 2 phone numbers per day; paid plans start at $79/month.

Verdict

For outbound teams running direct-to-send email campaigns, Seamless.AI is the superior choice over ZoomInfo due to its 6% bounce rate versus ZoomInfo's 28%. However, the data points to a deeper operational truth: do not trust any single provider's data blindly. If you must have ZoomInfo's superior match rate (82%), you must budget for an intermediate verification tool like MillionVerifier or NeverBounce. If you lack the engineering resources to build a multi-step verification pipeline, choose Seamless.AI, but restrict your sending volume to protect your domain.

What we'd test next

In our next iteration, we want to run a 10,000-contact test across these six providers plus Apollo and Prospeo. We will run every output through an independent three-step verification pipeline (syntax check, MX record lookup, and SMTP handshake) to establish an objective baseline of valid, catch-all, and invalid emails before any messages are sent.

The investor read

The B2B data layer is rapidly commoditizing, and legacy giants like ZoomInfo are highly vulnerable. ZoomInfo's high-friction, high-cost annual contracts ($10K+) are increasingly difficult to justify when their data hygiene is poor (28% bounce rate in this test). This data gap explains the explosive growth of workflow-first aggregators like Clay and Apollo, which sit on top of multiple data APIs and allow users to waterfall search across providers while running real-time verification. Future venture returns in this category will not go to proprietary database owners, but to the orchestration layers that programmatically clean, verify, and route data from multiple cheap APIs.
